Rocket Earthbound
If a supercar designation is subjective and changing characteristics of a decade most of the ten best "lists include cars with engines of HP high, 2 meters wide-body rear wheels fitted with tires of 335 mm. However, the rules must be broken especially when the rules are flexible to begin with. So, enter the rocket.
Rocket body style is so far the Ferrari and Lamborghini Super as it can come and go be a car. The hood looks like the end of a vacuum tube, while the chassis is shaped like a cigarette. The wheels and suspension links are exposed. The cabin is closed on the sides, but open on top and not the windshield so the driver is always liable the elements. The name is appropriate because the body resembles the side of a rocket on wheels.
It is the result of a former driver car named Chris Craft. It was also his first project.
Although regarded as the craft itself good craftsmen, was perfectly aware that there was a car designer Gordon Murray vessels engaged in the design of the rocket.
Gordon Murray is considered one Formula One chief designer and his cars have won five world championships. Murray was also responsible for the McLaren F1 road.
As can therefore expect that the philosophy of Formula One is expressed as the rocket. And it is. The slim body, wheels and exposed the links of the suspension, cabin open without windshields are considered pure Formula 1. It is also true that Formula One, the chassis is constructed from the built environment nickel-bronze alloy panels and interior fiberglass panels. The Rocket is powered by a Yamaha FZR 1000 motorcycle 1002 cc straight-4 to 5 valves per cylinder. It is capable of a maximum power of 143 hp 10,500 rpm, and torque 77-lbft at 8500 rpm.
The engine is mated to a gearbox 5-speed sequential Yamaha, then a special unit that incorporates the final limited-slip differential and reverse. The gearbox has not been reversed.
The Rocket was extremely light only 400 kg. This provided an optimum power / weight. Rocket has also been outstanding and maneuvers
braking.
The front brakes are ventilated discs with drilled 4 piston Brembo calipers, discs with Brembo drilled rear 2 pistons.
As tested by Autocar, the rocket could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 129 mph.
The rocket can be purchased on special order, but the price is very high, in the same range as the Lotus Esprit GT3. However, as capacity for a single passenger, offers no protection against the elements and has no storage space, would certainly not be practical commuting. One said: "The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys." This also applies to women. The Rocket is a fun car, a toy for those who can afford the price. But it would be fun to drive, even if only once.
