One of the main concerns of the Government of Canada during this period was to avoid the experience American war of borders. Fortunately, the situation was different from that of Canada under the border. The miners and settlers were not yet arrived in Western Canada in sufficient numbers to challenge the warrior tribes of hunting grounds.

The Cree and Assiniboine surrendered his title to 120,000 square miles from the center of Saskatchewan and Alberta, to accept the treaty. The presence of the Mounted Police in their scarlet tunics played an important role maintaining the peace negotiations of Treaty 6.
In September 1877, at Blackfoot Crossing on the Bow River, the Blackfoot tribal confederation met the two Commissioners appointed to a treaty with them in Canada: The Honourable David Laird Territories, vice governor of North-West, JF Macleod and Commissioner of Police Mounted Northwest. The relationship of trust established between the commissioner and the two most important Indian leaders Macleod, Crowfoot and Red Crow, was the Key to the success of the signing of Treaty 7. Accept the "Blackfoot Treaty," Crowfoot said: "The advice given to me and my people proved to be very good. If the police had not come to this country, where we are all today? evil men and whiskey were killing us so fast that very few of us would have been today. Provost (Military Police) $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Provosts are military police whose duties are policing solely within the Armed Forces, as opposed to Gendarmerie duties in the civilian population. However, many countries use their gendarmerie for provost duties. As with all official terms, some countries have specific official terminology which differs from the exact linguistic meaning. In some countries, official terminology only uses military police to indicate provost units (e.g. in the USA) or even provost units only in the Army, not the Navy or Air Force (e.g. the UK). The head of the military police is commonly referred to as the Provost Marshal. This ancient title was originally given to an officer whose duty it was to ensure that the army of the king did no harm to the citizenry. Military police are concerned with law enforcement (including criminal investigation) on military property and concerning military personnel, installation security, close personal protection of senior military officers, management of prisoners of war, management of military prisons, traffic control, route signing and resupply route management. Poetry and the Police By Darnton, Robert $29 In spring 1749, Francois Bonis, a medical student in Paris, found himself unexpectedly hauled off to the Bastille for distributing an abominable poem about the king. So began the Affair of the Fourteen, a police crackdown on ordinary citizens for unauthorized poetry recitals. Why was the official response to these poems so intense? In this captivating book, Robert Darnton follows the poems as they passed through several media: copied on scraps of paper, dictated from one person to another, memorized and declaimed to an audience. But the most effective dispersal occurred through music, when poems were sung to familiar tunes. Lyrics often referred to current events or revealed popular attitudes toward the royal court. The songs provided a running commentary on public affairs, and Darnton brilliantly traces how the lyrics fit into song cycles that carried messages through the streets of Paris during a period of rising discontent. He uncovers a complex communication network, illuminating the way information circulated in a semiliterate society. This lucid and entertaining book reminds us of both the importance of oral exchanges in the history of communication and the power of viral networks long before our internet age. Publisher.
