Advertising, now that the low

Advertising is not a highly regarded profession. In fact, advertising has a single point above the seller used cars. Some might argue that it should be reversed. Nobody in the advertising industry is to receive the Nobel Prize Peace in the short term.

Then why the advertising profession get such low marks? For as in industry, we deserve all the harsh criticism directed against us. Discard tomato. We must do better. Every day we find new ways for the American public down.

Let's be honest. Most lists are crap. They speak to consumers for fools. The ads are condescending or lack of imagination or objectionable. TiVo is because that people do not want to attend another dam cures erection of a middle-aged Guy launch a football through a tire rotation.

Most of the ads reflect the fantasy world of a client, where customers go ape shit on everyday products like toothpaste and hammers. People can smell a fake a mile away, and dislikes. Nobody really believes that the purchase of new and improved detergent laundry will eliminate major life problems. But the advertising industry does not seem to notice.

Some advertisements are misleading. One minute, you think a celebrity endorses a line of cookies only to read on TMZ that Woody Allen is suing the mark for using his image without permission. Or perhaps you think you can really tow 50 telephone poles until the display third where you see the "dramatization" in small print.

Many ads are misleading. Ever wonder why the voice in such negotiations as soon as the copy of surrender at the end of the advertisement? Perhaps there is something you really do not want that we know. As the number of cell phone minutes will really cost.

Here are a reflection of how advertising can climb a few notches: Tell the truth. Speaking the truth in a way that inspires blunts mind rather than a double whiskey. Speaking the truth in a way that reflects real life, not castles in the air of a advertiser. Speaking the truth in a way that gives customers credit for their intelligence, not treat them as if they all have room temperature IQ. Remember that consumers appreciate the creativity. They like to laugh. You can put the two together.

There are some brilliant examples that the right advertising can be when done. I think the Mac ads show the characters of Mac and PC. Enterprise Mac is simple and smart and clever. It communicates a clear point of difference. The ads are often as funny as the TV I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, Apple is no exception. And things only get worse. Because advertisers have discovered that they can notify all parties. You may receive a notice of jewelry at the bottom of a box of shoes in airport security. You may see a logo tattooed vitamin water on someone's shoulder. Soon the moon will be on sale. Time to run.
